A convicted murderer in Arkansas is the first of several inmates to be executed before a lethal injection drug expires at the end of the month. Ledell Lee was one of eight inmates who were scheduled to be put to death, however, several of those inmates have received stays of execution.
Ledell's execution took place just before midnight after a series of last minute appeals were rejected. Earlier, the state Supreme Court overturned a ruling that blocked the use of another drug involved in the lethal injection drug cocktail. The next execution is scheduled for Monday.
