New Holiday Tree to Shine Bright in Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the City of Lights

WHEELING, W.VA. – The City of Wheeling’s holiday season will sparkle a little brighter this year thanks to a brand-new holiday tree that will be lit by Santa Claus on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Plaza on Market.

Standing 14 feet tall, the Norway Spruce was generously sponsored by Duplaga’s Top Notch Landscaping of Wheeling. The tree serves as a stunning centerpiece for this year’s holiday celebrations and commemorates the 40th anniversary of the City of Lights.

“We wanted this year’s tree to be extra special in honor of the City of Lights’ 40th anniversary,” said Mayor Denny Magruder. “Thanks to the generosity of Chris Duplaga and his team at Top Notch Landscaping, we’ve been able to make that happen. This beautiful tree reflects the pride and community spirit that make Wheeling such a wonderful place to live, work and visit during the holidays.”

The holiday tree will be adorned with ornaments created by children from across the Ohio Valley. Some were made at the “Nightmare Before Christmas” craft station during the City’s Halloween event, while others were designed by students from Wheeling Country Day School. Each ornament will add a personal touch and will represent the creativity and community connection that define the season in Wheeling.

The City extends its gratitude to Duplaga’s Top Notch Landscaping for their generous contribution and for helping make this year’s holiday display one to remember. The Top Notch Christmas tree lot will open on Nov. 28.

The tree will be officially lit during Winter on the Plaza, the City’s holiday kickoff celebration, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Plaza on Market.
