Building Collapses in Miami Beach, One Person Injured

A 12-story building in Miami Beach, Florida, collapsed Monday morning leaving at least one person injured Miami Beach Police said. 

It was not immediately clear why the building had collapsed. 

The injured person was taken to a hospital where their current condition is currently unknown. 

The 12-story building that collapsed was located at 5775 Collins Ave and was scheduled for demolition to make way for a new condo development according to The Next Miami, a news site that focuses on Miami real estate.

The building had a demolition permit on file, but not an implosion permit, police said. 

The property, which was built in 1963, is currently vacant and had been recently purchased by Brazailian developer, Jose Isaac Peres. He says he plans on building a 19-story tower on the property according to the Miami Herald

The Miami Beach Fire Department say they are on the scene and are asking the public to stay away from the area.
