Driver Finds Baby Crawling Across New Jersey Road

Authorities in New Jersey have opened up an investigation after a motorist discovered an infant crawling slowly across a busy street over the weekend. 41-year-old Cory Cannon was driving when he saw the young child in the middle of the road, where the speed limit is 40 miles per hour.

At first, he thought it was just a toy, but realized it was a baby after she started to move. Cannon then got out of his car to block traffic and took a photo of the young girl before calling the police

"I thought it was a toy or something until she moved," he wrote in a message to the Asbury Park Press. "I knew I needed to get some sort of proof and my GPS was open on my phone, so I used my work vehicle to slow down traffic behind me and took the pic as I was exiting the vehicle and halting oncoming cars."

A neighbor came outside, recognized the toddler and brought her back to her family.

Police believe that the child crawled out the front door after one of her older siblings left it open and that nobody in the family realized that she was gone.

The New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency is working with the police on the investigation, but so far no arrests have been made.
