The New York Police Department has evacuated the Time Warner Center after a suspicious package was discovered in the mailroom Wednesday morning. Police say they are treating the device sent to the mailroom where CNN is located, as a real explosive.
CNN reports the device sent to the mailroom was constructed with a pipe and wires according to a source with the NYPD.
CNN's Jim Sciutto posted a photo to Twitter of the scene outside the Time Warner Center in New York saying the NYPD Bomb Squad had arrived on scene with a containment vessel used to dispose explosive devices.
The NYPD said the package was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, c/o CNN. Brennan is a frequent guest on CNN and regular critic of President Donald Trump whose security clearance was revoked earlier this year.
Earlier Wednesday, a series of suspicious packages sent to the White House intended for former President Barack Obama and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate nominee Hillary Clinton were intercepted by the Secret Service Wednesday morning.
The building located at 10 Columbus Circle in New York City includes other WarnerMedia corporate offices as well as offices for other Turner channels such as TNT. A mall and a Whole Foods is located in the basement.
