Local Salvation Army Exceeds Annual Goal

The Salvation Army Red Kettle final update Monday 12-27-21

The Salvation Army of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, and Tyler counties exceeded their $70,000 Red Kettle donation goal with a final total of $98,972.89. The grand total includes the iconic Red Kettle, seen at local stores, and the online Virtual Red Kettle.

The Salvation Army helped 840 people this Christmas season. Toys were given to 417 children, 500 nursing home gifts were given, and 13 gifts were given to the men in The Salvation Army’s Men’s Shelter.

460 people were fed Christmas dinner on Christmas day through take-out, delivery, and eat-in.

Mark VanMeter, Captain of The Salvation Army, said, “We are overwhelmed with gratefulness. The generosity of the community is remarkable. The Salvation Army will be able to continue helping the community because of the kind people that gave during this Red Kettle season. We are extremely thankful for our local media and our Christmas Chair Family, Bob Contraguerro and Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.”

Bob Contraguerro said, “I’m truly honored to be part of this accomplishment, but all of the credit must go to the people who donated and to the bell ringers who volunteered their time during this holiday season.”
