May is mental health awareness month. 1 in 5 people are living with a mental health condition. That's approximately 5,600 Wheeling residents. Only 45% of adults & 51% of youth with a mental illness get treatment. The average delay between symptom onset and treatment is 11 years. 90% of people who die by suicide have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. NAMI Greater Wheeling wants to change these statistics and part of this is raising awareness for mental health.
