A fraternity and sorority have been suspended amid a hazing investigation at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. The investigation was launched after the body of 20-year-old student Won Jang, who was part of the class of 2026, was found in a river.
Jang attended an event at docks near the Connecticut River with his fraternity, Beta Alpha Omega, and a sorority, Alpha Phi, on Saturday (July 6) night. He was reported missing on Sunday, prompting a massive search near the docks.
After several hours of searching, Jang's body was found in the river about 65 feet from the shore. Officials are waiting for the autopsy report to determine how he died.
Officials said they received reports that many people at the event were drinking and that some students were being hazed.
"There is some evidence of alcohol involved, certainly from witnesses and talking with things like that," Police Chief Charles Dennis told WMUR. "Again, that's all part of our investigation. We did receive an anonymous email this morning through the college that there may be some hazing involved, so we certainly will look into that aspect, too."
