The first major winter storm of the season has swept across parts of the United States, bringing over a foot of snow to areas in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. More than 200 million people are experiencing this early winter blast, which includes not only heavy snowfall but also the coldest temperatures of the season.
The lake effect snow has significantly impacted these states, with additional snowfall expected in upstate New York, including Buffalo and Syracuse. The snow in New York is anticipated to continue through Tuesday (November 11) and into Wednesday morning, potentially adding two to four inches before it transitions to rain.
The storm has also caused flurries in unexpected places like Nashville, Tennessee, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The cold front is extending its reach, bringing freezing temperatures to the Northeast and the South. Freeze warnings are in effect across several states, including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
In addition to the snow, the storm is bringing record low temperatures to cities in the Southeast. For example, Raleigh, North Carolina, will see highs of only 48 degrees, while Atlanta will reach 50 degrees. Even Miami will feel the chill with a high of just 68 degrees. Wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph are expected in the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England, making the already cold temperatures feel even more frigid.
