Second Lady Usha Vance denied rumors that she's divorcing Vice President JD Vance in a statement obtained by PEOPLE through a spokesperson on Sunday (November 23).
The second lady was recently seen not wearing her wedding ring while making a public appearance alongside First Lady Melania Trump during their visit to the Camp Lejeune military training facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on November 19, which she claimed she simply forgot in her statement through her spokesperson.
“[Usha is] a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,” the spokesperson said.
Usha, 39, and JD, 41, were married in 2014, having initially met when they attended Yale Law School. Recent rumors of their potential divorce were also sparked by the vice president's hug with Erika Kirk, the video of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, during a Turning Point USA event last month.
“No one will ever replace my husband. But I do see some similarities of my husband in JD — in Vice President JD Vance. I do,” Kirk also told the crowd during the appearance, which was dissected by many on social media.
Erika, 37, praised Usha for her support during her husband's memorial service.
“She told me, you will get through these 15 minutes and the next 15 minutes after that,” Erika said of their private conversation. “Usha, I don’t think you realized it then, but those words were exactly what I needed to hear.”
The vice president also sparked controversy when he publicly said that he hoped his wife, who was raised in a Hindu family, would eventually convert to his Catholic faith in October.
