On Tuesday, the California state legislature approved a bill that prohibits the use of certain chemical ingredients commonly found in popular snacks and beverages, including Skittles, Brach’s Candy Corn, and Strawberry Yoo-hoo. This decision follows scientific studies that have connected these chemicals to adverse health effects in humans. The bill is now awaiting Governor Gavin Newsom's signature.

This legislation has encountered opposition from the National Confectioners Association, a lobbying group, which released a statement contending that there is insufficient evidence to support the ban.

The chemicals subject to the ban have been associated with issues related to behavior, reproduction, and have demonstrated potential carcinogenic properties.
