President Biden today is expected to call on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months.

A senior administration official told reporters that a gas tax suspension alone "won't fix the problem we face," but "will provide families a little breathing room" as the administration continues working to bring down gas prices "for the long haul."

If approved by Congress, the suspension would lift the 18-cent tax per-gallon on gasoline during the summer months, as well as the 24-cent tax per gallon on diesel.

President Biden is expected to lay out the proposal in a speech from the White House this afternoon.
