Shaq Gifts Car To College Wrestler So She Never Misses Practice Again

Tamara “The Firefly” Humphries, an 18-year-old wrestler at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, earned a full-ride scholarship but was struggling with transportation to practices and tournaments. Determined to not let her lack of a ride hold her back, she spent her summer working at a restaurant to save money for her first car. Her story didn’t go unnoticed and eventually caught the attention of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Shaq reached out to Tamara and her family through social media to let her know that he had something for her: a brand-new SUV. She was overwhelmed by the generous gift, describing the moment as “unreal” and “amazing.” Along with the car, he talked to her in a video call, encouraging her to stay focused, succeed in school, and continue her wrestling journey.

Tamara first competed against boys in high school and developed into a standout athlete with Olympic aspirations. She says she plans to continue her wrestling career with the goal of one day bringing home Olympic gold, and with her new ride, there’s one less thing keeping her from practices and tournaments.
