An eight-year-old Florida boy is being praised for his remarkable courage after he helped save his father during a medical emergency last week. Authorities say the child quickly called 911 and used Narcan, a medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose, after his father became unresponsive. First responders arrived soon after and took his father to the hospital for care.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood shared that the boy followed the exact steps he’d been taught, adding how critically important the child's steady response was in that moment. He also noted that the boy has a strong support system, including a caring grandmother who has been by his side.
After the scare, Sheriff Chitwood rewarded the young lifesaver with a special shopping trip made possible through the Volusia Sheriff’s Youth Foundation and local donors. The sheriff thanked everyone who pitched in and described the boy as a wonderful child who deserves good things ahead.
